5-Day Detox Diary (Days 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5)

Greetings to all of you who are working towards a healthier 2015!

If you read my previous post (“The New Phone Book’s Here!”) and January Newsletter, you know that I decided to jump start my journey to wellness with a cleanse.  I chose the 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse from Young Living.  I had heard and read that it was a mild, all-natural way to cleanse your digestive system and an excellent start to getting your whole body in tune.  I also promised to post a diary of my detox adventure.  Well, here it is!  I will add new updates for each day of the cleanse.

Day 1 Yep, it’s Day 1, and I am chomping at the bit to get this journey started!  I have assembled everything needed: My 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse pamphlet (comes with the products), Balance Complete for my shakes, Digest and Cleanse, NingXia Red, blender, 8 oz. measuring cup and 1/4 cup measuring cup, and my favorite water bottle.  I decided to start my cleanse on Friday.  I don’t have students that day, and it will give me three days (including the weekend) in case the cleanse isn’t as mild as I have heard.  😉

I’ve decided to go snack free, if possible, to get the maximum benefits!

So far, I have had no headaches (which in and of itself is a miracle!) and only mild cravings/hunger.  I usually have headaches almost everyday – one of the reasons I am doing a cleanse.  I determined that the cravings were more behavioral than physical and were easily ignored.  When afternoon came, I was surprised by a burst of energy.  I’m usually looking for the recliner because I have a pounding headache and/or my adrenals have crashed and I have no energy – NONE!

I felt soooo good that I became a cleaning machine.  I tackled our master bathroom!  It’s the size of a small bedroom and hadn’t had a deep cleaning in a while.  Oops, did I really admit that!  Before it was said and done, I was on my hands and knees crawling around the bathroom and scrubbing the baseboards.  Wow!

The roughest part of the day, if you could even call it that, was the evening meal.  My husband ate the leftover Shrimp Gumbo from my “Fat Thursday Favorite Foods Fest”.  You know what I mean.  If you know you’re going to do a cleanse or go on a diet, you stock up on all your favorites before you start.  Don’t lie!  You know you do it, too!  🙂

I ended Day 1 feeling accomplished – no snacks, stuck to the plan, no headaches or discomfort, AND my bathroom is really clean!

Day 2 - I Surrender!Well, it’s Day 2.  I thought this picture might be more appropriate, as it looks like the little guy is saying, “I surrender!”  Now, before you bail on me, let me explain.  Do you remember that burst of energy I had yesterday?  Well, today it is followed by aching muscles where I didn’t know I had any.  To top it off, my husband started a fire in the wood-stove to warm the house and save on propane.  He is such a great fire-starter that the indoor temperature quickly became 75 degrees.  I haven’t experienced that kind of heat since my trip to Texas last year, and there was plenty of humidity there!  The dry air triggered a headache that was still pounding into evening.

So, I’m going to say that the cleanse is going well in spite of my experiences.  Cravings are minimal to nonexistent, my weight is dropping (update on weight-loss on Day 3), the diuretic function of the cleanse is working well, but the colon cleanse part is slow in happening.  I will intentionally increase my water intake tomorrow to help the colon cleanse.  Here’s to Day 3!  🙂

Day 3Day 3 and I’m back on track!  Why am I so excited?  Besides no more sore muscles and no pounding head, I stepped on the scale this morning after only two days and have lost 9 lbs!  Woo Hoo!!!  Things are looking up!

Cravings were almost nonexistent.  In fact, it wasn’t about a particular food; it was about chew.  I miss chewing!  Everything is liquid.  (Granted, I could eat one of the allowable snacks which would give me that desired chew, but I’m still trying to go snackless.)  I decided to try adding some ice to my smoothie.  Big, BIG mistake!  I added too much ice.  The smoothie puffed up and was so thick I almost had to eat it with a spoon.  Lesson learned!  My evening shake was iceless.  😉

Day 4It’s Day 4!  What? What’s that you’re saying?  I can’t hear you for all the growling!  Yep, today is growling day.  There was some growling yesterday, but it wasn’t too bad.  Today it is out of control!  Every inch of my stomach and intestines is taking a turn.  Talk about embarrassing!  Fortunately, my students are too polite to say anything.  Maybe it’s not as loud as I think.  Hmmm!

On a positive note, all that growling seems to be “moving” things along, if you get my drift.  (The colon cleanse is finally starting to work!)

Oh, and the cravings were back today.  I was craving roasted carrots.  Roasted carrots?!?!  What is happening to me?  I think this detox is working!

One more day to go!

Day 5High 5!  It’s finished!  No headaches, increased energy, and feeling better generally!  The growling from Day 4 is subsiding and “things” are slowly moving along.  😉

The veggie cravings are increasing!  (Who knew?)  I’m actually planning my first day of real food with a big plate of grilled fresh green beans!  Oh, man!

    Day two was a classic. At work today I had to close my little closet and just LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! and cry at the same time. Don’t EVA quit♡♥♥♡
